June in Crete

June in Crete is a lovely time. June weather in Crete is very pleasant. It is hot enough to enjoy swimming in the sea and sunbathing on the beaches but not too hot temperatures to be unpleasant.

Crete in June is not too crowded either as most of Europe’s school holidays don’t commence until July and August. So people without children, older people and families with preschool children enjoy the delights of Crete at this time.

We’ve found that in June the weather in Crete is wonderful and it is rare to see any rainfall in June. The sunny weather with increasing high temperatures makes swimming in pools or the sea a necessity to cool off. The sea temperatures are very pleasant too.

If you’re staying on Crete in June you may need to use the air conditioning to cool off in the day but the nights shouldn’t need it.

Flights to Crete in June are frequent which makes it very easy to fly direct to Crete. International flights to Crete bring visitors to Chania Airport and the busier Heraklion Airport. There are some cheap flights to Crete in June but as the month progresses the prices tend to rise.

Visitors to Crete in June will find an excellent choice of accommodation on offer. Budget apartment’s right through to 5 star luxury hotels or private villas are available in the month of June.  There are some bargains to be had but you may need to book early to pick up the bargains.

Things to do in Crete in June

If you are visiting Crete in June you could make your way to one of the fabulous water parks you’ll find across the island. There are 4 big water parks on Crete. 3 of the Waters parks in Crete are found close to Hersonissos near Heraklion.

The other big water park on Crete – and our favourite is Limnoupolis, Chania. Water parks are great fun for families and thrill seekers and visiting one of them in June in Crete is an ideal time as it is hot enough and not too crowded.

Walking the Samaria gorge is also a great thing to do in June in Crete. It is not too hot and not overcrowded at this time.

Visiting the local markets is also a good thing to do on Crete in June as you’ll find plenty of fresh local produce at this time. The strawberries, peaches, apricots and melons are gorgeous at this time of year.

If you like walking you could explore the hillsides of Crete in June as there are still great displays of flowers at this time.
 
If you are staying in or around Aghios Nikolaos or Elounda in June in Crete you could take a boat trip to the island of Spinanlonga, the former leper colony made famous by Victoria Hislop’s fabulous novel entitled The Island.
