In Greek mythology the mystical bird of regeneration, the phoenix was said to build a nest from cinnamon sticks and rise from its burned ashes.
Known to the ancient Greeks as a therapeutic spice and prized for its aroma cinnamon was said to aid the blood, heart and digestive system.
Cinnamon was also popular in ancient Greece as an additive to wine and was said to be sacred to the god of wine Dionysus.
