Flights to Crete...

This Flights to Crete page is from the Completely Crete website.

Flights to CreteIt's great to visit Crete at any time, but bear in mind it can get very hot and a bit busy in July and August. The sea is warmest in September, and the countryside is at its best in Spring.

In the winter, Crete is wet and cool.

Crete Airports

Strict security measures are in force at all international airports.

Click here for the latest up-to-date security rules.

There are two main points of arrival by air in Crete.

Heraklion Airport is centrally located towards the east of the island, about 5K east of Heraklion Town.

This airport is useful for getting to popular resorts such as Malia, Stalis and Hersonissos, and the popular towns of Agios Nikolaos, Sitia and Ierapetra. This is the most popular destination airport for departures originating in the UK.

There's a large car park opposite with space for about 500 cars (more if the parking was better organised). Some people often park by the perimeter fence along the west end of the airport, but you can get a ticket doing that.

On arrival, you can leave by hire car, taxi or bus. There are several hire car companies with kiosks just off the arrivals area. Local buses are frequent too, and there is a taxi rank just outside.

Agia Galini 1½ hours
Agia Pelagia 20-30 minutes
Agios Nikolaos 60 minutes
Amoudara 1¼ hours

Chania is the other international airport and is located in the West of the Island.

You can find some long and short term parking nearby, but it can get packed in the summer. You can leave the airport by hire car, bus or taxi. Buses run only about 4 or 5 times a day to Chania Town (15K away) though.

Here's a list of some of the resorts best served by Chania Airport. The travel times shown are by car:
