Some Images of Crete to bring back memories of summer…

Bookmark and Share
Summer is well and truly over now, even here in Crete, as we move into the middle of November.

It rained all day yesterday, although we still managed a walk along the beach front. Coats weren't needed because it's still nice and warm, especially in the sunshine.

I've put together a collection of pictures taken here on Crete as homage to the summertime.

NEWS FROM CRETE AND GREECE

These news reports appeared in the Kathimerini newspaper:

Border hauls

"Police on the Greek-Albanian border seized around 140 kilos of cannabis in two separate hauls yesterday. The bulk of the drugs – 90 kilos – was confiscated from an Albanian national caught near the village of Pyrsoyianni. The drugs had been concealed in four sacks being carried by two donkeys. One of the sacks also contained a Kalashnikov assault rifle, police said. The other haul of 50 kilos of cannabis was confiscated from a car stopped near the border. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot."

Attiko [Hospital] at risk

"The Attiko Hospital, the country’s largest university hospital, may be forced to close due to a severe shortage of staff, according to research carried out by Skai. The hospital has 670 unfilled vacancies for medical staff and only five of its 14 surgeries are operating, the research has revealed. Staff on duty at the hospital are overworked and staging strike action, with many threatening to resign, according to Dimitris Kremastinos, president of the hospital’s expert advisory board. "
