New Year's Eve in Crete

We've just celebrated New Year's Eve in Crete, here in Chania.

The stage was set in the Town Square, and you can see the traffic building up during the day. Click on a thumbnail to get the bigger picture:

Children entertained the crowds during the day, performing traditional Greek dancing. Meanwhile, many Cretans were crowding into the betting shop. It is a tradition in Greece to make a wager on New Year's Eve because it is thought to be very lucky. Click on the thumbnail:

There's a gambling frenzy in Crete on New Year's Eve

As the children continued to dance, the night rolled in and the Town Square prepared itself for massed crowds to welcome in the New Year. Click on a thumbnail:

WE WISH ALL OUR VISITORS, READERS AND CUSTOMERS A VERY HAPPY AND PEACEFUL 2009!
